STATEMENT OF FAITH
Believers Fellowship accepts the Scriptures as the revealed Will of God, the all-sufficient rule of faith and practice, and for the purpose of maintaining general unity, adopts the following Statement of Faith.
The Bible The Bible is the inspired Word of God. It is a revelation from God to man, and is to be accepted as the infallible rule of faith and conduct. (II Tim, 3:15-17; I Peter 1:23-25; Heb. 4:12)
The Godhead The Triune Godhead is comprised of three (3) separate and distinct personalities, The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit, who are eternally self-existent, self- revealed and function as one entity. Jesus Christ, who is God manifested in the flesh, is the second member of the Godhead, co-equal and co-eternal with The Father and The Holy Spirit. (Matt. 3:13-17; John 1:1-14, 14:6-18; I John 5:5-10)
Man and Salvation Man was created by God in His likeness and image and for His glory, but by voluntary transgression fell into sin, and his only hope of redemption is in Jesus Christ the Son of God. (Genesis 1:26-31, 3:1-7; Romans 5:12-21)
Redemption Redemption is available through the shed blood of Jesus Christ. On the cross Jesus Christ became sin and sickness providing both salvation and divine healing for all mankind. (Romans 3:24; Ephesians 2:8; Romans 10:8-10)
Evidence The inward evidence to the believer of his salvation, is the direct witness of the Spirit. (Romans 8:16) The outward evidence to all men is a life of righteousness and true holiness. (I John 3:23)
Works Salvation is by faith in Jesus Christ and not by human works; however, our works will determine the rewards we receive in eternity. (Romans 10:9-10; Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:5-7; Romans 14:10-12 and II Cor.5:10)
Water Baptism The ordinance of baptism by immersion should be observed as commanded in the Scriptures by all who have truly believed on Christ as Savior and Lord. In so doing, they declare to the world that they have died with Jesus and that they have also been raised with Him to walk in newness of life. (Matt. 28:19; Acts 10:47,48; Romans 6:4)
Communion Communion is the commemoration of the broken body and shed blood of our Lord, Jesus Christ, and as an ordinance shows His death, burial, and resurrection, and looks forward to the Marriage Supper of the Lamb. All Christian believers, regardless of church affiliation, may partake of the Lord’s Supper with the admonition to prepare by deep self- examination so as not to receive unworthily. (I Cor. 11:23- 31; Luke 22:7-20)
The Holy Spirit All believers are entitled to, should ardently expect and earnestly seek, the Baptism in the Holy Spirit, according to the command of our Lord Jesus Christ. This was the normal experience of all in the early Christian church. With it comes the endowment of power for life and service, and the bestowment of the gifts and their uses in the work of the ministry. (Acts 1:4-8; I Cor. 12:1-31) This wonderful experience is distinct from and subsequent to the experience of the new birth. (Acts 2:38, 10:44-46, 11:14-16, 15:7-9; 19:2,6) The Baptism of believers in the Holy Spirit is evidenced by the initial physical sign of speaking with other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance, and by the subsequent manifestation of spiritual power in public testimony and service. (Acts 1:8, 2:4, 10:44-46)
The Church The local church is the community of born again Christians in unity and fellowship for the purpose of proclaiming the gospel to the world. The Biblical mandate is for all believers to gather together often to worship God, grow spiritually, and provide a framework of mutual edification for the good of all. (Heb. 10:24-25; Acts 16:5;
Angels and Demons Satan and a host of spirit beings called demons are in a state of continual war with God and humanity; being of a nature so corrupt as to be beyond the possibility of redemption. Man relinquished certain of his rights to satan who temporarily rules as the god of this world. God is surrounded by a host of angelic spirit beings who do His will as ministering spirits for those who shall be heirs of salvation. (Eph. 2:2, I Pet. 5:8-9; I John 3:8; Heb. 1:14; Ps. 103:20; Matt. 25:31)
Last Things When considering the doctrine of last things we must express a Biblical position on Death, the Second Coming of Christ, as well as Heaven and Hell.
Death Physical death is the separation of the soul and spirit from the body, until the resurrection. All of mankind will be resurrected; the believer to the resurrection of eternal life, and the sinner to the resurrection of damnation. At the point of death, the believer’s spirit and soul goes into the presence of the Lord, while the sinner’s spirit and soul descends into conscious torment in hell. (Luke 16:19-31; Heb. 9:27; II Cor 5:1-8)
The Second Coming of Christ The Second Coming of Christ is personal, imminent and premillennial. The Lord Himself will descend from heaven. Therefore, we should be ready, “… for in such an hour as we think not, the Son of Man will come.” (I Thess. 4:16-17; Titus 2:12-13; Matt, 24:36, 24:44, Acts 1:11) The coming of Jesus Christ with His saints will end the great tribulation, and establish the millennial kingdom on earth, when Christ shall rule and reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. (Rev. 1:7; Zech. 14:4; II Thess. 1:7-10, 2:8)
Heaven Heaven is the habitation of the living God, where Christ has gone to prepare a place for all His children, where they shall dwell eternally in happiness and wsecurity with Him. ( I Cor 2:9; John 14:2; Rev. 21:4, 22:5, 7:15-17)
Hell Hell is a literal place of outer darkness bitter sorrow, remorse, and woe, prepared by God for the devil and his angels. There is a lake that burns with fire and brimstone into which shall be cast the unbelieving, the abominable the murderers, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, and those who have rejected the love of Jesus Christ, whose names are not written in the Lamb’s book of life. (Rev. 20:10, 20:14-15, 21:7-8, 14:10-11; Matt. 25:41; Mark 9:43-44)
Resurrection of the Dead This doctrine must include statements on the Resurrection of Christ, Believers and Unbelievers. Also included is the Millennial Reign of Christ and the New Heaven and New Earth.
Resurrection of Christ We believe in the literal bodily resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ. In His resurrection He became the firstfruits of the resurrection of the righteous. (Matt. 28:1-7; I Cor. 15:1-20)
Believers Upon the return of Christ, the bodies of believers will be raised in an eternal spiritual body like Christ’s for when we see we shall be like Him. (I Cor. 15:52; I Thess. 4:16-17; I John 3:2)
Unbelievers The spirit and soul of all who have not been born-again abide in hell until the Great White Throne Judgment. This is the resurrection of damnation where unbelievers will be given an eternal body and cast into the lake of fire which burns with fire and brimstone forever and ever, (Matt. 25:46; Rev. 2O:lll5)
The Millennial Reign of Christ The Second Coming of Christ includes the rapture of the saints, which is our blessed hope, followed by the visible return of Christ with His saints to reign on the earth for one thousand years. This millenial reign will bring the salvation of national
The New Heaven and the New Earth We, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwells righteousness and where pain, sorrow, crying, and death will pass away forever. (II Peter 3:13; Rev. 21:4, 22)
